Skilled newcomers may arrive in Canada with strong professional experience, only to find that their previous industry is shrinking, changing, or offering fewer opportunities than expected in Canada’s current labour market. This workshop will help participants assess how these industry changes are affecting their employment options, identify which parts of their experience remain valuable, and explore realistic career pathways. Participants will also make informed decisions about how closely they can remain connected to their previous field while identifying adjacent opportunities that build on their existing experience.

Employer silence can create uncertainty and make it difficult to know how to interpret the status of an application or interview. This workshop will help participants assess periods of silence more strategically, distinguish between factors they can and cannot control, and make informed decisions about when to follow up, when to redirect their energy, and how to keep multiple opportunities moving at the same time. Participants will also explore ways to prevent prolonged silence from undermining their confidence or becoming a judgment about their professional value.

AI tools are increasingly being used to support different stages of the job search. This workshop will help participants use AI more strategically while maintaining their own professional voice and judgment. Participants will explore how to use tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to tailor applications, prepare for interviews, identify opportunities, and develop networking messages. They will also practice creating effective prompts, reviewing AI-generated content, and using AI responsibly to improve the quality of their job search rather than simply increasing the number of applications.
*Please bring: A current master resume, one job posting you are ready to apply for, and access to LinkedIn and an AI tool such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot.
